11:30
First the lights flickered, then the whole area loses power. Screaming from our house ensues. I put on some shorts and a blanket and take a little stroll outside in the vast blackness. Fireworks are going off in the sky as I gather with UCUers outside their house. After 5 min I run back in to get some shoes and some housemates. The next hour involves husky cheers and a gathering of hundreds of UW students in the median on 17th. Then a bonfire starts. Couches start getting thrown in. The Beta frat turns on some music.
12:30
22 cop cars have gathered on 47th and 16th. A ring of police officers come marching down the street and form a ring around the crowd, tear gas in hand. Firemen eventually put out the flames, and I headed to bed--tired, but pleased I had joined in the festivities.
